Schools Coaching Service

The Inspiring healthy lifestyles Schools Coaching Service is a co-ordinated approach to supporting Wigan’s Primary Schools in delivering high quality school sport & PE & School Sport.

Our innovative service provides schools with access to qualified coaches with the ability to offer planned and structured lessons in line with the National Curriculum.

We have experience and knowledge to help with:

– High quality Curricular & Extra Curricular delivery

– Specialist Sports Coaches

– National Curriculum assessments and Ofsted support

– Primary Leadership training (SPLAT) programme

– Support with school teams competitions

– Provide training to school staff

Sport in your Community

The Sports in your Community programme offers a wide range of sporting activities to young people aged 8+ from all areas of Wigan and Leigh.

Inspiring healthy lifestyles have teamed up with partners such as StreetGames and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service to give these young people an opportunity to try new sports, meet new friends, engage with positive role models and get advice or guidance from qualified staff.

Activities include:

Football, Martial Arts, Boxing, Multi Sports and Street Dance.

Adult Sports

The Inspiring healthy lifestyles Adult Sport programme consists of the ‘Back to Sport’ and ‘US Girls Alive Clubs’ products. The Back to Sport programme funded by Wigan Council and Street Games encourages adults to get active by taking part in a range of sporting and recreational activities.

The adult programme is targeted at individuals and groups looking to return to sport or try a new activity for the first time. Get fit, socialise and have fun with like minded people with the adult sports programme.

Coaching and Volunteering

We pride ourselves on providing quality educational & developmental opportunities for the voluntary sector of the borough. Inspiring healthy lifestyles believes that Coaches & Volunteers are highly important in the development of grassroots sport. As a result we offer a range of programmes & initiatives aimed at assisting the borough’s voluntary sporting workforce to reach their full potential.

Club Development

There are over 300 community sports clubs in the Wigan Borough. Inspiring healthy lifestyles have an officer in place to support clubs with Club Mark and equivalent accreditation, identifying funding opportunities, coach/volunteer development and in connecting clubs with partners such as Schools & Colleges, Wigan Council departments and with their respective National Governing Body. We work closely with the Wigan Borough Sports Council and encourage all local clubs to become members.

Inspiring healthy lifestyles also organise the Annual Wigan Sports Awards where local clubs and their volunteers are recognised for their dedication and achievements in sport.

Disability Sport

Inspiring healthy lifestyles offer a range of sports and activities for children, young people and adults with a disability. The majority of activities take place weekly at sites across the Borough, with a full programme of activities during school holiday periods. We also work with partners to deliver disability specific sports competitions and events throughout the year; and offer parents/carers the chance to keep updated and raise any concerns via the Wigan Disability Sports Forum.

Apprenticeships and Traineeships Inspiring healthy lifestyles offers a range of apprenticeships and Traineeships where people get the opportunity to gain qualifications alongside valuable working experience. Successful candidates get the chance to learn a wide variety of skills whilst taking on new challenges everyday.
